Cisco Should Buy NetApp Given ‘Pod’ Success, Says ISI Group

ISI Group’s Brian Marshall today reiterated a suggestion that networking and server vendor Cisco Systems (CSCO), whose shares he rates Neutral, should consider buying storage equipment vendor NetApp (NTAP), whose shares he rates a Buy.

Marshall takes as his cue the announcement today by the two companies of updates to their a combined offering of products from their respective portfolios, an automated system that can be installed in corporate data centers, called a “FlexPod.” Pod is a general term of art in the data center business for any group of components, such as servers, switches, and storage arrays, bundled together into a cohesive unit that can be bought in increments to build out a company’s computing capabilities.

Marshall notes that the two companies said the FlexPod line of product now has more than 3,000 customers, since going on sale in 2010. Read more CSCO.
